In this lesson ss learn about present continuous affirmative form and meaning ( something that is happening in the present moment ) through a guided discovery song "Sailing" by Rod Stewart .First of all ss listen and put the lyrics in order.Then T elicits the marker sentence ( I am sailing / I am flying) .T asks CCQs to check meaning ( Is this happening now ? yes ) and draws timeline. T highlights form and pronunciation. ss do a controlled practice ( cross word puzzle) then a semi controlled one . at the end ss do a free activity( mime it ) using mime and gestures .

Procedure

Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T shows 2 pictures and asks ss "what are they doing ? they are sailing " /" what is it doing ? it is flying "

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a song '' Sailing by Rod Stewart "

T asks ss to put the lyrics in order before listening ss listen twice and correct their answers T asks ss to underline the verbs in the song

Clarification (8-7 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T draws a time line to clarify meaning and ask CCQs T clarifies pronunciation of contracted forms T clarifies affirmative/ negative form from the marker sentence. " I'm sailing" " I'm not sailing"

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

SS complete the missing verbs through picture prompts ss work in pairs T provides correct answers
