Procedure (46-60 minutes)
I will tell the students that I prefer going out with my friends. Then, I will ask them: what about you? you prefer going out alone or with your friends?. So, you like socialising. Now, anyone understands the meaning of socialising? It's the action of behaving in a friendly or sociable manner.
I will ask the students: what you did when you went out? I will elicit the various answers from them. Then, I will ask them to read the words box and choose which of these do they do if they go out with their friends? which do they never do? why not?But before starting I will make sure that they knew the meaning of Karaoke /ˌkær.iˈəʊ.ki/ which is a type of entertainment in which people sing songs with recorded music that is played by a machine.
I will ask them to read the first paragraph and select three activities in exercise 1 which are mentioned and identify which country/countries do they associate with these things. I will ask them if anyone knows the meaning of 'applaud' /əˈplɔːd/which means to hit your hands together to show that you have enjoyed a performance, speech, etc. After that, I will ask them to read the phrases box and choose which of the three activities do they associate these phrases with?
I will ask the students to work in pairs, read the rest of the article and complete the sentences in exercise 3. Then, I will ask them to guess the meaning of the words and phrases from the context and check in their mini-dictionary, if necessary.
I will ask the students to complete the reviews with words from the text.
I will ask the students to discuss the questions in exercise 5 in one group.
