In this lesson, students will be learning about conjuctions. they will be reading a text where target language is introduced and answering some questions. through these questions the target language will be highlighted and clarified. students will do some practice at the end

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of linking words in the context of the shepherd boy

Subsidiary Aims

  • • To provide gist reading practice using a text about the shepherd boy

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will projects 4 pictures. T asks students to talk in partners about what they see in each picture. T elicits answers from sts.

Gist reading task (4-5 minutes) • to introduce the target language via a text about the Shepherd boy

T chests HO T gives instructions " read quickly the story about the shepherd boy and pick one title" Students check in pairs. T elicits the answer from students

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T divides the students into 2 or 3 groups depending on their number. T sticks on different walls some sentences from the text. T gives instructions. " these are three incomplete sentences from the text, I want you to complete them with answers from the text.""when you finish writing the sentences you go down and write the form"

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T takes the marker sentences from the previous activity in the highlighting stage. "because he felt bored" "although they were busy" "so he climbed back up the hills" T elicits the name of the words and their use from sts. "conjuctions are used to join or connect 2 sentences" T gives them a guided discovery handout that shows the form. "students will get through the form in the previous activity too" T does some choral drilling of the sentences.

Controlled Practice (5-6 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T chests HO (gap fill acitivity) T gives instructions " fill these gaps with the right conjunction" "you have 3 mins" Students xhack in pairs T projects the answer key

Semi-Controlled Practice (5-6 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

T chests a HO (incomplete sentences) T gives instructions " read these sentences and try to complete them with your own ideas" Pair discussion T elicits answers from students

Free Practice (4-5 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T projects the pictures again on the WB T asks students to stand up and choose a partner T gives instructions "look at the pictures and tell the story again using the linking words"
