Description

In this lesson we will start with a fun tasting food warmer activity. T will elicit from the Ss needed vocabulary. Ss will read a reading text about their Teacher. They will read for gist and then scan read it. After that for the last time they are going to read it for details. This follows up with a productive skilled exercise where they will use the some of the vocabulary provided.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and specific information reading practice using a reading text about someone's eating habits.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide Ss with clarification, review and practice of vocabulary in the context of food.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (7-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will start with the game he created called 'With a taste'. T will put the Ss into two groups. Each student will get a letter from the T in the beginning of the lesson and that will be the group the student will be in. After setting up the groups give them the instructions. From each team one at a time Ss will come forward. They will be blindfolded and they will try some kind of food, they will taste it and try to guess which food it is. They only have ten seconds of time.If the given time is up, Ss still can't guess it they can take help from their groups. Group members can't tell the name only can describe it. If they know the answer they will raise their hands. After ten rounds the winning team will be chosen. For each round a group member help the Ss for tasting part by putting it to his/her mouth. ICQs: Can we help the student by talking them the name? No. Are we going to see? No. Are we going to eat? Yes. How many seconds? Ten

Pre-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

1)T will give them HO1 which contains some vocabulary they probably know for the main reading text. They will do it in pairs they will have two-three minutes. ICQs: Are we doing it alone? No. How many minutes do we have? Five. 2)T will show on the board the emojis with hate, like, don't like, love. If the computer doesn't work use handout version. 3)T will write on the board or show the blocker vocabulary and drill with the whole class show where the stress is.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

1)T will give first instructions and then give them the HOs which contains the actual reading part and the first part of tasks. Instructions: Read the text quickly and decide what the main topic of the text is? ICQs Are we reading slow? No. How many times? One. After that tell to check their answer in pairs. 2)T will give them the task which contains the scan reading aim. There will be True and False sentences. They will do in pairs these questions. Use WC feedback after the given times up. Are we looking for something special? Yes. Do we need to read the whole text? No. 3)For the last part of the stage tell them to rewrite the false sentences and create correct sentences accordingly to the paragraph. Are we writing? Yes. Are we working alone? Yes.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

T will give them the last HO which contains the reading for the detail task. They will answer the question individually in five minutes. After the time is up they will check in pairs. ICQs: Are we answering the questions alone? Yes. How many minutes do we have? Five.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T will give every student a handout which will contain the photographs of the Ss. Their task is to walk around the class find the person they need and talk to them to complete the sentences.Using the form He likes....He hates.. etc. They need at least two sentences for each Ss. If they finish completing all Ss, the person will the winner of the game.
