Description

In this lesson,students answers a reading task followed by a grammar lesson" reported speech". Afterwards, the teacher elicits the meaning, form and pronunciation. They will do a controlled practice activity.Finally, They will produce the TL in a speaking activity.

Main Aims

To provide review and practice of Reported Speech in the context of An Amazing Story.

Subsidiary Aims

To provide accuracy and fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of An Amazing Story.

Procedure (29-39 minutes)

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-T. shows Ss a quote about brotherhood. -Ss express their opinion.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

-T. tells Ss to read the reading text quickly and answer ex 1 -Ss discuss answers together. -T. elicits the answers. - Ss answer ex2 " they put the sentences about the story in correct order" -Ss revise answers together. -T. elicits answers. -

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

-T. first highlights the TL. throughout the given example" Michael asked if he could speak to Mr.Bell. -T. elicits MFP of this sentence as an example of changing the indirect speech to a direct speech. -Ss in pairs change the arranged sentences into a conversation between Michael and the woman" -Ss, swap their answers together. . T. elicits answers.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

- Ss, in pairs answer Ex 1a. -Ss. revise answers ogether. -T. elicits answers and corrects Ss mistakes.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

-T. divides Ss into two groups. -T. tells Ss that they will imagine there is a conflict between two friends and they do not talk to each other. They have a third friend who will try to solve this conflict. They talk to each other but through out this friend. -T. models first with two students. -Ss swap roles and each student has to change at least 4 sentences from direct into indirect and so on . - T. monitors and takes notes. -T. gives feedback on the content and the language on the board.
