Grammar: Information questions with "be". E.g. What is she like? Where are they from originally?
Procedure (38-45 minutes)
-Stick the photo of a family member of my family. - Want ss to ask questions to me about the photo on the WB.
-Hand out the HO1 -get SS to complete the blanks individually. The students will complete questions by using Subject Pronouns. -Monitor them
- Group SS as in pairs. - Give each pair a set of clipped pieces of paper on which there are questions and answers taken from Touchstone1 SB.pg.27 - Give SS time limit to match the questions with the right answers - Monitor and help if they need. -Let each different pair tell their answers
- Hand out the HO2 including conversation gaps copied from Touchstone 1- Workbook pg.24 - Want SS to complete the conversation by using the given questions such as What are they like? Are they friendly? - to be done individually but checked with pairs - Monitor them -Then want ss to read the dialogue but make sure about the unfamiliar words, if there is , support for the pronunciation
- Give them the chart adapted from Touchstone 1 / SB pg.27 which includes questions words such as What...? Where...? How...? - Want SS to write at least 4-5 questions about their own family to be able to use these questions in the next stage - Monitor and support them
- Group SS as pairs but change the partners - Make sure that they use TL by asking questions they have written beforehand. - Want some of them to speak about their partner's family according to the information they have gathered
-Put the parts of the questions face down on the ground. Each learner takes it in turns ( randomly chosen by T ) to turn up and stick on the WB next to the related words to make correct question form
