Procedure (33-44 minutes)
I will start to turn the music on during the welcoming students in the class. (6.25pm). After the song finishes I will ask them if they can guess what we are going to talk about. Group feedback. Then try to elicit the spend and save vocabulary from them. Project the bank pic and shopping woman and try to elicit the vocabulary. CCQ 1: What to we keep in the bank? money What is the synonym of keep? / save If they can't know I will give a clue that it starts with s.... CCQ 2: What did she do? shopping Did she save the money? No What did she do? spend
- Tell them that we are going to listen a song about money by an American band called Good Charlotte. - Tell them that I will hand out the material- 1 and we are going to listen to the song which has phrases in it and they'll fill in the gaps.Tell them that not to worry about the meaning about the phrases. We will check them later.( ex a) - Check the sound and be sure that they hear clearly. - Monitor - Nominated students tell the answers. ( feedback)
- Ask about the phrases and let them to talk about the form of the target language. -Write the phrases on the board and draw their attention to the target language. - CCQ: Are these single / one word? / No Are they a full sentence? / No Do we have to use them together to get the meaning? / Yes Can you sometimes see verbs or prepositions in? / Yes
- Tell them that they are going to listen again but this time I will give them another hand out ( with the money one) where they will check the meanings of the words. - Tell them that please look at the back of the paper - money. - Show them the money and let them to see the task behind it. (ex. b) - Tell them that they are going to work together - ICQ: Are we ging to listen to the song again? Yes Are we going to match the meanings? Yes - Set the time for 3 mins. to compare the answers. - Give the H.O.2 - Project the answers on the board and ask them if there is a problem - Tell them to pay attention about the pronunciation of "o" sounds in different words. - Drill " with money, foot the bill , shopping sprees, comes with a fee, for free
Draw cline and ask them that if they know the meaning of "cynical" and "offensive" Try to elicit, CCQ: Is it a negative?- Is it related with the personality?Yes ( cynical) - Do I hurt somebody? Yes , - Tell them that they are going to talk about the song and discuss with each other. - Tell them that they will work in pairs. " Do you think this song is.... * very cynical?, sad but sometimes true? ,offensive to women or men? - Ask nominated students
Tell them that I will give them different H.O.'s. Look at the first page and please fill in the blanks with the vocabulary from the list. -You are going to fill in the blanks with the words in the list. - We have 4 mins. - After that ask them to look at the other side the page and check the answers with the pairs. - Discuss on their mistakes. - Take notes and get the common mistakes and ask nominated student to explain them the meaning. If they still don't get it, then ask CCQ. - Elicit A's and B's (name them different- gold - cash) about the form of the words
- Tell them that they are going to discuss with a partner about the question projected on the board . - " Why do we need money?", What can we do with the money?" - They have 4 mins. - Ask nominated students to tell why we need money and write them on the board. - They will use the target language.
