Description

In this lesson students will practice vocabulary about jobs and years in the context of famous people, through listening and visuals ,then they will practice the years of birth and death in both the controlled and free practice.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and review of jobs and years in the context of famous people

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy trough speaking practice in a conversation in the context of years
  • To provide listening for specific information and practice using a text about birth and death years

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-T will projects some of her favourite famous people Singer: ADELE/ Leader: NELSON MANDELA/ writer:ELIF SAFAK/painter:VAN GOUGH/ musician: MOZART -T will ask Ss if they know these people and what are their jobs and nationalities -T will drill ( singer,leader,painter,writer,musician).

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

-T will give Ss a matching activity (exc1 a) with pictures and cards(names ,nationalities, and jobs) to match with. -T will ask them to pair work -ICQS: -Are we writing or matching? -Working alone, or with a pair? to check their answer T will play audio 2.56 and tell them to tick their answers if its correct.

Highlighting (2-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T will give HO to Ss and tell them to fold the first part of it, then she will play the audio 2.57 ICQS: are we going to read or listen? they will listen to some years and find out about the person they go with. T will tell them to work alone and will project the pictures for them to help them guess. when finish they check their answers in pairs and T will project for them an answer key

Clarification (5-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T will play audio 2.58 and pause after each one to ask them about the numbers they hear, and T will write the years on the board and underline them and ask CCQS: -what are these Numbers ?years? - what is the year? (birth or death?) - we can devide them or we can say the whole number (give exc) Ss listen to the whole audio, in pairs will ask them to ask each other about what are those years.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T will show Ss picture of michael jackson and ask: -do you know him? -what's his job? a singer - is he alive? Ttries to elicite the word died if they do not know it T will say it with meaning, T will them he was born in 1958 and died in 2009,T tell them i was born in 1991 and ask them " when were you born" write it in the board and drill "when were you born". In pairs T will project for them the pictures for help and put them in A and B and tell them to look at (exc C) A: Ask B: answer when they finish they swap, teacher will get FB by projecting an answer key

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

T will tell them to go to the last exc in the paper (excD) -read the Qs and try to guess which people in the pictures are they about, -T will project the pictures for them again and tell them to work alone -when finish they will check with their pair, - then T projects and answer key

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

-T will her name in a circle with some important dates for her - T will tell them each year and what it represents for her -T will ask Ss to do the same thing alone and then with pair they will ask and answer about it.
