Description

In this lesson, students read two true stories of Hans and Maggie, and answer some questions related to the general understanding and detailed information of the texts. then in pairs/groups they will talk about their story to new partners. In the end, they will learn more about some expressions in the text and will match the meaning with the expressions and write some sentences using them.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about t in the context of Fate

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of no chance, no way, no surprise and no use in the context of True love stories

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T asks: who is married? T elicits some answers. How did you meet ? T elicits some answers. T writes on the board: Do you believe in fate or things happen by chance? T elicits some answers. T gives the instructions: you are going to listen and circle the correct words, then check the answers with your partner. T plays the audio and then does WC FB.

Pre-Reading/Listening (4-6 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T: you are going to read the introduction to two stories, answer the Qs, then check with your partners. T checks the instructions. SS read, check, Then T does WC FB.

While-Reading (4-6 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

T gives the instructions: You are going to read, answer the Qs, then check your answers with your partner. T does a quick FB.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (16-20 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

T regroups the SS. T gives the instructions: you have 7 minutes to read it again very carefully. T monitors Ss to check if they are on the task or not and also help them when they have difficulties with the meaning of words and expressions. T gets SS' attention. Did you read reading A or B? Do you have questions A or B? Can you answer them? No. so, A asks B about his/her text and vice versa. T monitors and write down a few mistakes. If there is plenty of time T does corrections and regroups them again to talk about their story to a new partner, then gives feedback. If not, T does WC FB.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T gives the instructions: you are going to match sentences 1-4 to meanings a-d, then check with your partners. Ss do, T monitors, T does WC FB and explains more if needed. T gives the instructions: You are going to write 2-4 sentences using the expressions. Which expressions? the one you just matched.In pairs? no. When they are done, they put it on the wall. classmates check each others sentences to see if it's correct or not and also interesting.
