Main Aims

  • To provide speaking practice for fluency and accuracy in the context of meeting people.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Introduce the idea of formal/informal situations: Remind Ss the meaning of "formal and informal ". Use the pictures from HO1 (p.14) – ask them "Where is it? Is this situation formal or informal?"

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through listening

Tell Ss to listen 4 conversations. Before listening them ask them these questions: " Which conversations are formal and which conversations are informal?" .They can take small notes. Play it only once. Have them check in partners before you do very quick feedback with the whole class.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Give a set to each pair, have them put the sentences together. Instructions: "Put the words in order. Make three sentences together. When you finish, run and touch WB." ICQs: "Are you working together? Yes How many sentences will you create? 3 Feedback: Tell Ss each pair will compare another pair's answers. Then give them an answer key. Distribute them HO2. Give instructions: " Work in pairs. Complete the table with the phrases that you got ." Feedback: Show the answers on WB. Clarify MFPA on WB

Productive Skill Task 1 (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills for accuracy

Hang the diologue sheets on the walls. Put them different pairs. Tell them to stand up and choose one dialogue and memorize it together by practicing.

Productive Task 2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Give each student one or two cards (it depends on the class population). On one side of the card there is a photo of one celebrity and on the other side , there is its identity (a name, surname and a job). Have them go around introducing themselves to each other with their new identity. The moment they have finished introducing themselves they change the cards with their peers. Show your identity (if they don't know what it means) before giving instructions: "Look at these cards. There is a photo on one side and on the other side there is a name, surname and a job of this person. Stand up and walk around with your card. Introduce yourself to each other. When you finish, change the card" (If necessary, do a demo) ICQs: "Will you sit? No Will you walk around? Yes Who will you talk to? Classmates

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

After monitoring Ss on task, write any good language and common errors they have done. Elicit correct language by asking Ss questions.
