Description

in this lesson the students will listen to a tape-script of an old Hollywood star who couldnt become successful in Hollywood and is going back home. they will also practice speaking during the lesson. by the end of the lesson students will have practiced their listening for gist and listening for specific information in the context of fame and fortune.

Materials

Abc tape script, answer the questions, fill in the blanks

Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, the students will have practiced listening for gist, specific information, listening for detail in the context of fame and fortune.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide the students accuracy in speaking with discussion activities in the context of fame and fortune.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T shows pictures of her favorite Hollywood stars on the WB and tell them to discuss about the pictures. Later talk about the pictures.

Prediction task (4-6 minutes) • to encourage Ss to predict and think about the context of the text and give them a reason to read/listen to the text

T projects the picture and tells the Ss the picture on the WB is about the song you will listen make 5 predictions about the song.

Pre-teach vocab (5-7 minutes) • To pre-teach/unblock key lexis needed to help students understand the text.

T tries to elicit the new words from the Ss and teach them the new words.

listening for gist (5-6 minutes) • to encourage Ss to predict and think about the context of the text and give them a reason to read/listen to the text

T will give the SS 3 different titles, instruct them to listen to the tape script and decide according to them which topic is the most suitable one.

listening for specific information (7-9 minutes) • to further familiarize the learners with the text

T will give the Ss the HO and tell them to listen to the song and "fill in the blanks" with the correct words. once they are done T will pair them for pair check and WCFB.

listening for detail (10-12 minutes) • to practice listening for detailed compherension

T will give the Ss HO and tell them they will answer the questions. once they are done T will re-group them and pair check later do WCFB and ask them to answer why they chose that answer.

post-listening (3-4 minutes) • to give an opportunity to reflect on the text

T will tell the Ss to work in pairs and answer the questions in the HO. T will later conduct WCFB
