Description

In this Lesson, students will develop their oral fluency through guided activities. First, they will do some listening activities which will be a model for what they are going to talk about.Then, they will do some pre-speaking a activities. Finally they practice the target skill,speaking,in pairs.

Main Aims

  • By the end of this lesson, students will develop their oral fluency through useful use of language.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Ss Practice listening to activate their schemata and to acquire some language chunks that could be used in speaking.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

* T asks Ss what they know about Australia. * In pairs, Ss discuss the question in pairs to find out who knows more. * T make sure that Ss know the pronunciation of the main cities in order no to get confused while listening.

Exposure (7-9 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through listening

* T gives Ss the map of Australia and the vocabulary in box. * In pairs, Ss listen and find out in which places does Elaine mention the items in the box. * T provides O/C

Useful Language (5-7 minutes) • To activate Ss' prior knowledge highlight and clarify useful language for the coming speaking tak

* T hands "useful language" phrases in strips to Ss * Ss to categorize them according to function: recommending,not recommending, responding, describing. * T provides answer key

Preparation for speaking (2-3 minutes) • allow Ss to prepare for speaking

* Ss choose the place they like to talk about * Ss make notes about what they are going to say * T will provide Ss with any vocabulary or language items they need

Productive Task(s) (15-18 minutes) • Ss practice the target skill, speaking, and develop their oral fluency

* In pairs, Ss share their favorite destination and try to convince their partners with it. * Ss will vote for the most interesting destination.

Feedback and Error Correction (3-4 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

* T provides error correction for content/language mistakes that Ss made while speaking.
