Description
In this lesson students will learn the usage of object pronouns through reading and speaking skills. The context will be introduced with a notebook full of sentences that introduce the topic to them. The teacher will go over every highlighted sentence and ask what the words refer to and try to elicit the answers from the students. Then the T will show the reading and have the Sts skim and scan to find what the highlighted words refer to. this will be followed by clarifying the target language, where the teacher gives details of the MFP and grammar points of the topic through a variety of examples. T will then give students a fill in the blanks handout. reflect the answer after pair check and finally end the lesson with a group game on object pronouns.
Procedure (45-39 minutes)
Lead-in (8-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students in the grammar topic of object pronouns
T sets the story through a storyline in the notebook. Then T presents the sentences on the board and students elicit what each underlined word refers to.
Exposure (5-6 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a highlighted text to elicit meaning
Sts are presented a reading text and are expected to skim and scan to understand what the highlighted object pronouns refer to in the text. T elicits the answers from students and students write them down on the WB
Highlighting through listening (2-3 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language by listening and using object pronouns
Sts will do a listening exercise then model the sentences using an object pronoun.
Clarification (10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language
T will introduce the grammar topic object pronouns through the use of MFP. and elicit certain rules from the Sts.
Controlled Practice (4 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice
Students are given a Gap Fill Handout and work in pairs to fill it in. T shows answer key on WB after students do pair check
controlled practice 2 (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice
Sts write down the pronoun on 20 sentences then check with pairs and then T elicits the answers from students.
Semi- controlled practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with opportunity to practise their speaking skills
Sts are divided into three groups and are given 10 cards to match object pronouns with the underlined sentences. T elicits the answers from students.
