Description

In this lesson, sts review the difference between present perfect and past simple tenses based on the context of fashion and shopping. Within the controlled, semi-controlled and freer activities, sts utilize their input in the target language.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To engage sts in the context and set the context

T asks sts their opinions and tastes about fashion. The T hangs the pictures of famous fashion designers on the walls and ask sts their point in common. By indicating Lindka Cierach picture T emable sts to recall their prior knowledge about Lindka Cierach from previous lesson.

To highlight the target language with a listening task (5-7 minutes) • To give an opportunity to measure target productive skills

T gives the hand outs to sts which contains two stage listening practice. Sts work in pair, answer the questions happen to be found on the exercise and make a peer-check according to listening practice.

Clarifying the target language (6-8 minutes) • To elicit and clarify the target language from sts

T elicits the difference meaning of present perfect and past simple tense from sts. T projects two marker sentences one is in (the past tense the other one is in the present perfect tense) from the reading text and aks CCQs to sts as: - Do they happen now?, In the past? In the future? -Which sentence has a finished action? -Which sentence gives us an idea about an experience in the past? T gives a hand out to sts which contains some questions about the reading text which enables T to carry on elicting and clarifiying. Then T clarifies the form of the structure. T finishes the clarification stage by drilling one of the marker sentences and effectuating finger technique.

Controlled Practice (5-7 minutes) • To give sts a controlled written and oral practice of present perfect and past simple

T distributes HO to sts, they fill the gaps individually twith past participle form. Then sts peer-check with their partners. This is followed by a whole class feedback.

Semi-Controlled activity (6-8 minutes) • To give sts a semi-controlled oral practice of present perfect and past simple

Sts continue with the second part of the exercise which allows them working with their peers. Sts make an interview by using past simple questions. Then T receives the feedback from the whole class.

Post Freer speaking practice (6-8 minutes) • To provide students a freer speaking activity

T gives ICQs to sts and group them into three. While sts have a discussion about question "Have you ever brought something that you've never worn? What was it?" T monitors them and takes notes about errors and gives feedback about them.
