Description

In this lesson, the students will do some listening and speaking activities about the description of the food.They will listen to an interview about experiencing strange dishes from different countries.They will follow up with speaking and discussing their own experiences.

Main Aims

  • Vocabulary: To understand the different definitions of food types and describing taste and texture

  • To listen for detailed speaking

Procedure

Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher brings a feely bag to the class and asks students to touch the object inside the bag without actually looking inside of it. The student tries to guess the object by defining the texture of it. The teacher has the same act with some more students and elicit some words.

Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

The teacher hands out some matching activity worksheet for the vocabularies which is about the description of the food and cooking types.Students within PW try to match them. Then, the teacher hands out the sentences that needs to be matched with the adjectives while listening. Before listening the interview, the teacher asks students to have a look at the sentences to see if there is anything they are unfamiliar with.

Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information listening tasks

The teacher makes the students listen the interview to match the sentences with the adjectives that describes the dishes. Then she asks them to check the answers with their partner.

Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

The teacher hands out another worksheet which includes the text of the interview and asks students to underline the words for ways of cooking, texture and taste.She asks them to read it on their own and then to discuss the answers with their partner. The teacher writes the categories on the WB and asks students to write what they find on the board.

Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

The teacher asks students to choose 5 words from the box and write their own definition. She advises them to use the words that they have studied in the lesson. At first , they do it individually and then they discuss it with their partner.
