Description

In this lesson, students will practise listening for gist and detail. They will also practise speaking.

Materials

Abc 2 Audio Tracks
Abc Flash Cards
Abc Gist, Match and True or False Handout
Abc Pictures
Abc Information Cards (False identity)

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and specific information listening practice using an audio about different jobs in the context of socialising

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a different jobs in the context of socialising

Procedure

Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Mime the First word and set Pictures on the board. Elicit the Situation from the students as much as possible.

Pre-Listening (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Pre-teach vocab: مُرتب دخلْ بردو ترجمة بتصحى Use visuals to elicit words. Check meaning through CCQs.

While Listening #1 (5-6 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information listening tasks

Ask SS the question: Meen beyetkallim mع meen? They listen and answer Q1 orally. Set the flash cards on the wall and give instructions for the second gist Question. Check instructions Play audio for second time. The 2 groups check their answers.

While Listening #2 (9-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Ask the SS to read Task 1 I give them a model, then let them listen to and match Names with Pictures. Check in pairs before giving them the answer. Ask the SS to read Task 2 and concentrate well. give them a model to answer the Qs. Let them listen carefully for 2 nd time and answer. Check in Pairs before giving them the answer.

Post Listening (10-12 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Give them false identity information Cards to practise the whole lesson. I give them a model, each person ask 3 others. I let them 5 mins to read the cards clearly. Let them talk freely with outstanding monitoring.
