Main Aims

  • Grammar- past simple questions and negatives

Subsidiary Aims

  • Making them listen and speak about the past.

Procedure

Lead in/Building context (8-10 minutes) • To generate interest in the topic/theme/context of the text or listening

I am going to tell them a few sentences about what I didn't do yesterday. Then I will stick some pictures on the board first to generate their interest. After that, I am going to create a story board about past situations with the pictures. I will write dates under the pictures. For example there is going to be a picture which has ''yesterday'' written under it. After that, I will ask them to discuss and write 2 sentences about the pictures in groups. I am going to use the photos to teach blocking vocabulary. I will set a gist by asking the following questions: Did she read comics tomorrow or in the past? Did he go on holiday 2 years ago or 2 years later?

Reading or Listening task (8-10 minutes) • To practice reading/listening for gist/detail/specific information To contextualise and introduce the target language

After they discuss about the pictures, they will have an idea and information about the verbs and the vocabulary that they are going to be supposed to know about in order to answer the questions of the listening part. I will give the students exercises and ask them to listen and tick the things that they heard. In the second exercise, I will ask them to fill in the blanks according to the listening part.

Highlighting target language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight the target language so that learners are focussed on it

I will use the photos that they talked about before and this time I will ask them to create 1 negative and 1 question sentences about the pictures and they will ask 1 question to their partner in pairs and write them down. I am going to give an example to make my ICQ easier. After giving some time to them, I will listen their examples and write one negative and 2 questions sentence from their examples on the board. Then I am going to give them the third example which is called grammar spot and they will do it in pairs and they will do peer-checking afterwards.

Clarifying target language (7-9 minutes) • To clarify meaning so learners understand it, to clarify the pronunciation so learners know how to say it, to clarify form so that learners know how to construct it

After I write the 3 examples on the board, I will explain their forms and I will ask them to repeat after me and see the difference between two sentences like ; '' Did he go on holiday?" and "Did you go on holiday?" They will learn about pronunciation that is /c/ sound while saying "Did you".

Language Practice (12-14 minutes) • To provide controlled oral/written practice focused on using the language accurately, to provide freer oral/written practice and use the language productively

I am going to ask the students to say 2 sentences about something they didn't do on their last holiday to their partners and if we have more time, they are going to play a game. There are going to be some cards written ''Wh'' questions and answers on it. The students will be divided into two groups like orange and blue group and the questions will be given them. The answers will be on the wall. They will try to find the questions of the each answers and the group which finishes earlier is going to say ''FINISHED".
