Description

in this lesson, students will get to express their old dreams and ambitions differentiating between them and the current ones through a series of steps: first, they will watch a motivational video relating them to their ambitions. second, they will start talking to each other about their childhood dreams. third, they will be introduced to celebrities so that they can be more interested in the lesson. fourth, they will listen to an audio to know more about the celebrities before being famous. then they will recognise that some of the actors have been aware of what they wanted to be since they were kids, and they will need this idea in their production. after that, they will be put in new groups and get to know some new words through an activity, so that they can use these words later on. after that, they will listen to an audio of the celebrities to match them with their jobs before being famous. then, they will listen to a song related to dreams, hopes and ambitions filling the gaps for the missing words, then they can check their answers with me. finally they will get to relate the impact of the song to their dreams when they were young and their current dreams differentiating between them and free speaking to each other.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of bellman, ice rink, gymnast,priest, monastery and actor in the context of ambitions and dreams

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist and specific information listening practice using a text about celebrities in the context of before they were famous

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

it will be through using a two-minute video: where Will Smith is talking to his son about dreams and how much they are important. after the video ends, i will ask them to answer these three questions:does the boy love basketball? is basketball his dream? do you have a dream like that? what? and then i will ask them to discuss their answers in pairs. finally, i will ask one of them to answer all these questions.

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

through using the first activity mentioned after the listening part of page 62. this activity will be practised in pairs for one MINUTE, then they can share their answers with me. finally they can check their answers individually in one minute and then tell me about the most surprising piece of information they have encountered.

Highlighting (5-8 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

through an activity which will elicit the known and the ambiguous words. this will take about 2 minutes then i will check their answers in one minute. after that i will clarify and explain the difficult words for 3 to 5 minutes.

controlled prcticce (4-5 minutes) • being more acquainted with the target language

through listening to the audio and matching the famous person to his job before becoming famous. then they will check in pairs. after that, i check their answers.

Semi-Controlled Practice (4-5 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

through listening to a song: which will help them be ready for the free practice.

Free Practice (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I will ask the students to talk about their dreams when they were young and their current dreams, and finally to their partners about the celebrity they feel that they are like him/her.
