Description

In this lesson students will read about Galileo a famous physicist. I will ask them questions of talentd students to connect them with the previous lesson .they discuss and give me the answer .I will show them a picture of Galileo and let them discuss in groups to elicit the theme for the lesson. One or two will say the answer I praise and encourage. I will explain the blocking word that students are likely not to know and effect understanding when the student read the text. This can be by eliciting, modeling, drilling, CCQs and phonology. Students will read the text to answer the question that focusing on the major theme {gist questions} for feedback pair work then group work. Student will read again to read comprehension question because they read it before. Student will prepare a short talk about a talented person from their country. I will give a bullet –point list of what they need to include.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I show the students a picture of Galileo and ask them { Who is this ?} students discuss the answer in groups and after that I get the answer from the students.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

I will explain the blocking vocabulary that ss are likely not knowing them but are the key to understand the reading text {musician - theory- trial - blind- deaf} . I will explain the pronunciation of these words .student will put them in sentences from their own. I will ask students CCQs for the word above to check understanding {is he skilled in football or music? Is it a fact or opinion? is it for guilty or innocent people ? Can he hear? Yes. Can he see? No .Can he hear ? No. Can he see? Yes

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Student will read the text to answer about Galileo. Correct the sentences about him. Galileo was born in Padua. His father was a scientist. He was a professor at the University of Pisa. He was the father of six children. His theory was that the sun went around the earth. He spent his last years in prison. He was completely deaf when he died. they will answer in individually then in pairs then in groups {ICQS} are you going to read in details? No Are you going to read together or alone ?Alone.Are you going to read read all the words and know every word? No

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Students will read again to answer comprehension questions about the text of Galileo.They will read individually then peer work to check their answers{What nationality was Galileo?He was a physicist and a scientist. What else was he ? When was he born?Where was he a student?What was his job at the University of Papua?Was he married?What could he see with his telescope?Why were his ideas dangerous?Why was he not sent to prison? individually and then in pairs or groups to check their answers.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned
