Description

In this lesson, students learn about family and numbers. The lesson starts with some flashcards to make them guess the meaning of the words and they also see the difference between singular and plural nouns.

Main Aims

  • To check knowledge of basic vocabulary for talking about family.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To review and practice numbers from 0-10, and telephone numbers or prices in different currencies.

Procedure

Lead-in / warmer (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T writes her name on the WB and sticks some pictures on it and gives instruction.T writes the related vocabulary ( a woman, a man, married) and makes sure Ss know the meaning of married. T asks them if they are married. " Are you married?" "Are you single?"

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the recording and make it accessible

T shows pictures of people in a crowd and writes the related vocabulary ( a boy, a girl, a child, boys, girls, children). "Tell me how many boys/girls/men/women are in the picture?" T adds an extra question to make Ss speak about themselves in pairs. "Are you married/ single?" "Do you have any children?"

While-Listening #1 (5-6 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information listening tasks

T chests HO and points to words on the left. T gives instruction. "There are six words. Match the words with the pictures. You have one minute." ICQs "How many words?"6 "How many words?"6 "How much time?"1 min. Individually, Ss match the words with the pictures. While checking the answers, Ss write their answers on WB.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference listening tasks

Ss are asked to read and listen to the first one. Then check answers and move on. Ss listen to the recording 1.18 and go on. T gives the instruction. Ss fill the blanks and listen to the recording to check.

Post-Listening (7-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ss will talk about the 6 pictures on page 87. After doing it, they will write down two sentences about themselves.
