Description

In this lesson, students learn about expressing opinions through a discussion about the interests and jobs. The lesson will start with a discussion about their interests and jobs, then they will listen to a track, in which people speak about their interests. Students will try to think about the suitable job for every person according to his interests. They will write their opinions and reasons for these opinions. After that, I will elicit from them how to express their opinions, agreement and disagreement with other opinions. Then, students will listen to another track to check their answers. Finally, they will work in pairs. They will ask each other about their interests, write paragraphs about their partners and the suitable jobs for them.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide specific information, detailed and deduction listening practice using a text about jobs in the context of at rest, at work

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of language used for giving opinions in the context of at rest, at work

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will set whole class discussion about their interests and jobs. They will try to guess what wil they listen to.

While Listening (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with challenging detailed, deduction and inference listening tasks

They will listen to the track and answer some questions about the interests of four people. They will check in pairs. Whole class feedback.

Post-Listening (3-7 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Students will try to find a suitable job for every person they listened to his interests in the track and explain the reasons of their choices. They will discuss their opinions in two groups.

Focus on language (5-7 minutes) • To focus on new language from their discussion

I will elicit from the students how to ask about opinions, how to express opinions, and how to express agreement and disagreement.

Listening (2-4 minutes) • To provide students with detailed listening task

Students will listen to another track and check their answers about the jobs of the people they knew about their interests fro the first track. They will check in pairs. Whole class feedback.

Practice (5-8 minutes) • To provide accuracy and fluency practice.

They will work in pairs, ask each other about their interests and write paragraphs about the possible jobs for their partners.
