To review vocabulary and practice speaking for the purpose of making hotel reservation and inquiries
Procedure (45-55 minutes)
The lesson will start with a discussion about two different hotels in Tunisia; one in Dejrba and the other in Hammamet. SS are asked to choose which of the hotels they'd stay in. T then adds price/night tag for each hotel and ask SS to think of the choice they previously made, and decide if they would pay that price. - The class concludes that inquiring about prices is important when choosing a hotel.
" What are somethings that people take in consideration when looking at prices for hotels?" - SS take a minute to think and suggest answers, T then puts up pictures of some hotel furniture --> " What's this?" (bed) "What's the difference between these beds and this (3rd) bed?" ( big/small) - T elicits ' single bed' , 'King/Queen bed' and 'Twin bed' "What do we call a rooms with a single beds?" a ' single room' - "How about a room with a double bed" a 'double room' - T shows pictures of family room, " what do we call this room?" a 'family room' - T shows a picture of a suite, T elicits 'suite' - "How can we ask about prices for these rooms?" (call hotel) - What is another term for " ask for room prices?" --> T elicits " inquire about room rates" (more formal) - Task1: "Imagine you want to inquire about room rates in this hotel" ( pic1/2) " What do you expect to hear or say" " write down your thought in form of bullet points (SS do this in pairs) - T demos: " I expect to hear : * may I help you / * thank you, I would say: please to be polite - short feedback
- SS listen to the dialogue and check if they heard any of the words or phrases they suggested in task 1 , also listen for the main topic of the dialogue (gist listening) - Feedback with W/C - After listening ss work on task 2 in groups of 3 or 4 if possible . - Task 2 procedure: T gives SS the listening script in the form of mixed up slips, SS have to put the dialogue in the correct order ( they will be given 2-3 minutes to complete this task) - T gives instructions, and demos the first two examples with the whole class.
- T collects Slips and gives instructions for Task 3 - Procedure for task 3: SS read the questions before listening again. SS circle the correct information from the dialogue. (individual work) - T demonstrates the first and 2nd Example with the w/c - SS check with their partners (by asking and answering questions) - Feedback and answer key to check answers Finally - SS answer (in pairs) questions in task 3 - W/C feedback
- T gives ss guest information and asks questions from receptionist's information ( to demonstrate the task with the whole class) -T collects the guest's information from half of the class and gives them receptionist's information. - SS either have guest's information or receptionist's information - Tables are set up so that each guest and receptionist sit facing each other - SS ask and answer questions inquiring about different things Finally - Feedback based on phrases or words used during speaking task
