life stories lesson, positive characteristics

in this lesson, students will get new vocabulary about positive characteristics and they will use it in speaking in the context of ''life stories''. the lesson starts with a warm up activity by using a picture of some famous people and a small discussion what characteristics should a person have to be successful. after that they will do practice for the new vocab then they will have a speaking task. finally they will do a writing task

Main Aims

  • To provide accuracy and fluency speaking practice in a conversation about a person they admire in the context of life stories

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide review and practice of positive characteristics in the context of life stories

Procedure

warm up activity (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

to show them a picture of some famous and successful people and ask them about the positive characteristics that one should have to be a famous and successful person. they will give me some characteristics and then i will show them the new vocab that i have on the board and make a review of them then they will practice

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

they will think of someone they know (either personally or a famous person) who has these positive characteristics, then they will tell their partner about that person.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

they will do some practice on the new vocab and they will use them through a small discussion. students will see some occupations and find out what are the characteristics needed foe every occupation. then they will match the roles in exercise 1b with some qualities. then they will discuss two questions in small group.

Productive Task(s) (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

students will work in a small group discussing how many of the people in the photos they recognize and why they think people admire them. then they will listen to an audio in which two people are talking about someone they particularly admire. students will write down some details of each person's life they will listen again and note down why they admire each person. then they will do the speaking task using the useful language.
