I will ask students to watch a video about the world famous T.V. show " Who wants to be a millionaire". I will ask students some questions about the video. This helps to set the context and to attract students' attention. Examples: Did you watch this show before? What was the name of this quiz show? What much money did the man win? Did you watch a Turkish show like it?
I will pre-teach some blockers in order to help students read the text without facing difficulties. These words are contestants, prize, audience, win, general knowledge, final, competition, trivia, beat and competition. Students will learn the form, the meaning and the pronunciation of these words. Also, I will show them some pictures to help them get the meaning of the blockers easily.
i will ask students to read three texts quickly and to choose a suitable title. Then, I will divide students into /two three groups. I will give each group a headline and I will ask each group to match a headline to a reading text on the wall. The headlines are "Who wants to be a millionaire" , " Mastermind" and "Who is the best contestant in the country?". Students will skim the three texts quickly in order to stick the headline on it.
I will ask students to work in groups in order to read the article again and complete it with a verb from the list in the past simple. The verbs are ( answer, be, become, get, have, help, know, phone, win). They will work in groups to get the past simple forms and to put them in the gaps. Groups will be asked to exchange their answers in order to correct any errors. After that, I will get the answers from Students and write them on the board.
I will ask students to work in groups in order to answer some questions about the reading texts. The questions are: 1.In Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, there are ( 2 – 3 – 4 ) possibilities for the contestants to get help. ( Choose) 2. Why did Pat Gibson have a big party last night? 3. What did Mr. Gibson win last April? 4. How many contestants did Pat Gibson beat in the Mastermind final? 5. Why did Pat call Mark Kerr? Students will work in groups to answer the questions. Then, I will write the correct answers on the board.
I will ask each group to make a quiz show. A clever student will interview his peers one by one. The student whose answers are correct will be the winner. If there is time, the winners of the groups will be interviews in another quiz show.
