To provide gist, scan, detailed, deduction and inference, have clarified the context. Learning how to use pronunciation some words. Being able to talk and share ideas.
Procedure (33-45 minutes)
T divides the board in 3 sections. 1. I really love shopping for ...... 2. I really hate shopping for ...... 3. I never go shopping for ..... T writes her own things to love and hate buying and want Ss. write their things on the board which they use in their daily routines. First Ss. decide and go to the board. T wants Ss talk about what they write.
T makes the class into two groups and gives Ss 2 minutes to complete their sentences. When they are ready, Ss compare their answers with their partners. T shows some pictures and Ss make predictions about what the photos are about. Ss work in pair and discuss their ideas in group. If you could go out and buy anything today, what would it be? Do you ever buy things you don't need? T takes whole group feedback.
T gives reading text to Ss. Student A reads text-1, Student B reads text-2 Ss read their texts and make notes to answer the questions. Ss share their answers from the text they read. Check answers with the class.
Give Ss a few mins. to read the other text quickly. Ss find the words in text and discuss the meaning of the words and phrases in pairs. Check the answers with class, giving further explanations / examples where necessary. T asks CCQs; Which word means without a home? _ homeless Which word means not having too many things to choose between? _ Lack of choice
T hangs some questions on the wall and put the Ss in group Ss walk around and read these questions which are related to the context. They choose one topic and share their ideas with all the class.
