Description

This is a reading lesson about celebrations. I will start with birthday music as a lead-in. I will ask some questions about birthdays and presents. Then, I will ask students to do exercise 1. They will check answers in pairs. I will draw a timeline in order to ask some questions about the celebrations. I will pre-teach some vocabulary for the reading passages. After that, They will work in groups in order to match some headlines to the paragraphs. Then, they will read the blogs in order to match to Iife events. They will match some sentences to the blogs. They will read some sentences and tick or cross them. Finally, they will work individually to rearrange some letters to make life events and match them to some pictures. Then, they will check in pairs. Finally, students will be asked to get in groups in order to talk about some life events.

Procedure

lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To activate students' existing knowledge of the topic of celebration

I will ask students to listen to a birthday party music. Then, I will ask them some questions about birthdays and presents.

prediction task (5-7 minutes) • To encourage students to think about the content of the text and give them a reason to read the text.

I will ask students to put some life events in order by means of a timeline. They will be given slips of paper in order to read and go to the timeline on the wall to stick them.

pre-teaching vocabulary (3-5 minutes) • To pre-teach some vocabulary needed to help students understand the text

I will pre-teach some key lexis to help students understand the text.

Reading for gist (3-5 minutes) • To encourage students to read for a gist.

I will give each group a headline and they will be asked to skim the three blogs in order to match it to the headline.

Reading for specific information (3-5 minutes) • To practice reading for specific information

I will ask the groups to scan the blogs in order to match sentences to the blogs

Reading for details (8-10 minutes) • To practice reading for detailed comprehension

I will ask students to read some sentences and to refer to the blogs in order to tick or cross them. They will also correct the false sentences. They will check answers with their groups. I will show them the correct answers.

Writing task (2-3 minutes) • To develop written fluency on the topic

Students will be asked to rearrange some letters in order to make life events. Then, they will match three photos to the life events

speaking task (3-5 minutes) • To develop oral fluency on the topic & to personalize it

Students will be asked to talk to their groups about celebrations. They will talk about the date, the attendants and the presents. They will be given some prompts to help them.
