Procedure (38-58 minutes)
Hang some phrases and tell them you will be telling a story about two characters who just met eachother. Ask them what the story might be about and ask them why ? Then start telling a story. They have to learn about each other so they start chatting so tell them to look at the sentences on page 39 and see what they agreed on or not.
I will put them in groups and give them the handout and see what they know about neither/nor, so. SS will read the sentences and find the appropriate agreement positive or negative of the sentences. Then I will tell them to check with another group by changing some ss places for them to check their answers. Then I will hang the answer key and check their answers. A FB will be given.
After the ss do the activity I will write some sentences which they had problems on more and elicit the agreement from the students. I will make sure that they understand the inversion of agreement or disagreement by emphasizing the auxiliary verb or verb coming after Neither or So. If needed extra two or three sentences with different examples will be eliciited from SS if not teacher will write some examples. Similarities on the board and differences on the other side. Similarities ex: Dan went to Paris last year. (positive agreement) So did I /səʊ/ CCQS Did Dan go to London last year? NO Did he go to Paris? yes Did I go to Paris too? Yes. So did we both go to the same place? Yes Did I agree or disagree? Agree So/ neither an auxiliary verb+subject ex: Suzzie can't drive. Neither can I /ˈnaɪ.ðər/ ask ss how we can agree on the sentence in another way. Me,neither for negative sentences. CCQS Can Suzzy drive? No Can I drive? No Have got similarities? Yes ex:I am very busy at the moment. So am I. or Me,too can be used for positive sentences. General elicit ask ss when we use so and neither. Highlight the verb and neither or so.
SS will do activity 3 which isa about responding to the sentences. I will put them in a group of three and they will take turns to respond to the sentences. The first ss will say I like hiphop and rap music and the 2nd ss will respond as I don't. and 3rd ss will say neither do I. This will go on till ss finish their activity
Put the words on the board again and tell ss to write an end for the story for the two characters. Read a poem about the two characters and as a group they will write an end and hang them around the class. Tell ss to go and read the story and ask if any groups have a similar one. Then put the rest of the words and start reading. You can try to get some of the phrases from the students. Ask if it is a happy ending or sad. Ask what happened then show the video to them. If enough time Tell ss to write 2 positive and 2 negative sentences about their life what they can do, they can not do or what they like or don't like. Tell ss to go around the class and tell their sentences and note down who agrees or doesn't agree in the sentences. Remind them that they have to use. I like hip hop. I don't. or so do I
