Main Aims

To provide gist and specific information reading practice using a text about high-speed trains .
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide fluency speaking in the context of means of transportation .
Procedure (35-45 minutes)
-The T plays an audio of sounds of cars,ships,planes,motorbikes ,old trains and high speed trains . -T shows pictures of those means of transportation and give them 3 questions to discuss in pairs in 3 min .
-T asks the Ss to predict the content of the text . "What do you think we're going to read about ?"
-the T teaches the blockers(convenient, safe, comfortable, network) by using pictures and body gestures to try to elicit from the students -T drills the words and focuses on the word stress and spelling -T gives feedback and drills the words. -T uses CCQs to test their comprehension. (check LA for CCQs)
- T gives the reading passage and asks the Ss to think of an appropriate title for the text . (Ss wil be given 1 min ) - The whole class need to agree on one title . ( they will be given 2 min)
-Ss work individually to scan the text to answer T/F activity . - Ss work in pairs to check their answers . - T gives the answer key .
-Ss work individually to answer 4 comprehension questions to understand the text in more depth . -They will check their answers in pairs . -T gives the answer key - Each group race to order the trains ,that they have seen in the text, from the fastest to the slowest on the board . -Each group checks each others' answers . -The T corrects the mistakes if there are any .
- Each group will be given a hseet of paper with two definitions .They need to find the words from the text thatn go with the right definitions - Some Member of each group swap places to exchange answers . -Teacher gives the answer key
- Each group is given a mean of transportation( the metrobus and cars) . -Ss need to think of 4 advantages about travelling by train/plane ( 5 min) -Each group need to convince one another that airplane/train is better than the other . (5min) -T goes around to make sure Ss are on task and to take notes of the errors . -Delayed error correction
