Description

This lesson continues with a similar context to the previous lesson and continues the story startedin the reading, but changes the focus to grammar. This grammar is not knew for these Ss, but they still need review and practise.

Main Aims

To provide Ss with clarification, review and practise of simple past in the context of holidays

Subsidiary Aims

Listening and speacking

Procedure (46 minutes)

Warmer/Lead in (3 minutes) • To get students interested in the topic

- Show a picture from yesterday's lesson - Ask Ss what does this picture remind them of ? - What kind of holidays you talked about (good holidays?)

Exposure (5 minutes) • To expose Ss to TL in context through a text, in this case through a listening

- Ask Ss to listen to the audio and find out if Mia agrees with Joe or not - Ask them to discuss who agrees with Mia and who agrees with Joe

Highlighting (5 minutes) • To encourage Ss to notice the TL

- Ask the Ss to find out what Mia says about 5 points - Give them the handout - Ask them to listen again

Clarification (18 minutes) • To focus Ss on MFP of the TL

- T asks Ss to complete a conversation - Give the handout - WC FB - T draws a timeline on the WB ans asks Ss where the action takes place - Clarify that simple past is used with actions which are already finished - T shows that regular verbs end with "ed" ( Regular verbs) - Give examples of irregular verbs - Ask Ss to work alone, then check with the group - WC FB on the WB - Drilling some verbs

Controlled practice (10 minutes) • To check Ss' understanding of meaning and form

- Ask Ss to work in pairs - Ask SS tu put the verbs between brackets in simple past - Give the gap fill handout - WC FB on the WB

Semi-controlled practice (5 minutes) • To further consolidate the TL and allow some production

- Ask Ss to work in pairs - Ask Ss to interview each other about their last holidays
