To provide clarification, review and practice of present continuous tense in the context of clothes
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide Ss practice of vocabulary to describe clothes, to give Ss practice in listening for gist and detail and to give Ss practice in speaking for fluency.
Procedure (20-45 minutes)
-T will write "I am / am not wearing..." on the w/b and then describe to students what he/she is wearing -T will then ask Ss to descibe what they are wearing to each other in their groups
-T will distribute handouts of a painting to the students with three questions below the painting and ask them to discuss it in their groups -T will discuss the title with the Ss -T informs Ss that they will hear an audio recording about the painting and asks them to pay attention to things and people -T asks students to write down everything they remember about the recording in groups then asks whole class what they remembered
-T distributes true or false handout to Ss and gives them a minute to familiarize them with questions -T plays recording again and students individually complete true or false sheet (play recorded a second time if necessary) -Ss check their answers in their groups then T does whole class check
-T gives Ss grammar exercise and has them complete in groups -T checks with group and asks CCQs about the exercise and the painting to check for understanding -T will write form for present continuous on board and draw a timeline for further clarification -T plays audio file for Ss, pausing to let them repeat some of the sample sentences -T will elicit sentences some example sentences from the Ss
-T will instruct the Ss to work through the grammar exercise in their groups, then when they are finished T will ask Ss one at a time to read out the correct answer for each question -If time, T put students into pairs, shows them the spot the difference sheet and tells them to first describe their picture to each other then work together to find and express the differences
