Procedure (39-49 minutes)
- T explains this lesson is about " Good communication" - T asks the Ss how do you communicate with your friends and family? (keeping in touch) e.g - telephone, email, social media - T then shows the picture on the WB - asks the Ss what is the picture about? - Draw a Spider diagram on the board of the answers Ss have given about communication and social media. - T gives Ss a piece of paper with a social media image, they will then stand up and move around the classroom and find someone with a different image. - Ss have to find someone and ask questions about the social media image, for example "do you use Instagram?" "Do you have a lot of followers?"
Exercise 2 -T reads the two questions about the listening activity to the class. - T checks with the class that they know who is talking to who in the listening audio. - T allows Ss to check in their pairs to discuss the answers. - Ask for the FB from the Ss. - Play the listening again if necessary. - Exercise 3 - T asks Ss to read Paula and Megan's T or F statements, work together in pairs to see what they remembered. Then play the audio for Ss to check. - For FB get one Ss to come to WB to write the answers - Repeat these steps for the second conversation (Graham and Deniz)
- Exercise 4 is a discussion about social media. I will read out the 3 questions to the Ss. - I will put the Ss into groups of three and give them one question each to discuss. - Give the Ss 2 minutes to discuss. - Ask Ss from each group to give FB to reduce TTT.
-Exercise 5a T will read the sentences to the Ss and explain that all of them are about opinions either being your own, or someone else's. - Explain that the people from the listening audio said these things (Graham, Deniz, Paula, Megan) so they need to write the name of who said what. They will do this activity in pairs. - Put the Ss into 3 groups to talk about their answers. Then ask each group for their FB. - 5b: Tell Ss to look at the highlighted expressions. Explain they need to match these expressions with the sentences in 5a. Tell Ss there can be more than one answer for each expression. Ss can work in pairs. - FB can be given by early finishers.
Exercise 6a - T reads the sentence to the class and drills the stress in the words. - Ss listen to the audio to hear which words are stressed. - T asks which words are stressed. 6b: - T reads the sentences out loud from 5a. Ask the Ss in pairs to read out the sentences to each other and mark which words are stressed. - Ss come to the board to mark the words which they think are stressed. - 6c- Explain to the Ss they will listen to a script, or the T can read it out. Ss can repeat the sentences one by one after the T has said it. 7a - IF TIME -Explain to the Ss, in groups they must make sentences using the words from 5a (for example: " I reckon women make better bosses than men" 7b - T talks to the Ss about the sentences to see what they came up with and their opinions.
