Description

In this lesson ss will practice receptive skill, reading. Lesson will arouse from speaking. T will help learners process written text. T will use the pictures of holiday ideas and build a story about them briefly in order to generate interest in the topic of the lesson. T will pre-teach the related key vocabulary after matching activity. T will set a gist reading question and ss will get an overview of the text.T will give six comprehension for detailed reading. T will give feedback individually. From this part of the lesson, as it is post-reading, the ss will have an opportunity to personalize the topic with the help of 5 questions to ask their friends while they are mingling.

Main Aims

  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about last holiday that people went on in the context of past holiday.
  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about last holiday that people went on in the context of holiday experiences.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of ss' last holiday.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T shows the pictures of some holiday places. Try to elicit the word 'holiday' from the students. T demos some sentences. "Last summer, I went to Philippines, my mother stayed in İstanbul. T says that 'Tell your partner three things about your last holiday? Ss work in pairs for 2-5 minutes.

Pre-Reading / Pre-teach vocabulary (5-7 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T gives vocabulary matching. Ss do this alone quickly and check with their partner. 'Take a look at these pictures and the words. Match them. Do it alone and check with your partner.' T gives 5 minutes. ICQs are asked. T pre-teaches 'scenery', 'palace', 'sightseeing'. CCQs are asked.

While-Reading/ for gist#1 (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist

T gives 3 separate reading text with the city pictures for the gist task. T asks 'Look at the text, you will have 3 pictures of cities. Which countries are the places in? Work alone. 3-5 minutes.' ICQs 'Are working in pairs?' (No) 'Are we working alone?' (Yes)

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed tasks

T gives their question for their texts. T informs ss, 'Now you are going to read the text and you will answer the questions alone.' T says that they have 10 minutes to read and answer. T monitors, gives feedback one by one.

Post-Reading/Speaking (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T gives 5 questions about their holiday. Freer practice. Ss mingles around and asks questions given. They collect the information about their last holiday.
