Main Aims

To practice listening for general information, specific information and detail using a text and audio recording about Journeys in the context of unusual different type of trips people have taken
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide students with exercised to improve reading and speaking skills
Procedure (50-70 minutes)
Ask students if they know anybody who has been on an unusual journey Tell them they will listen to 3 unusual travel stories after being taught some new vocabulary related to the upcoming listening task Show them pictures and use blank-filling as well as gestures and explanations of new words to teach them the vocabulary needed to comprehend what they're about to listen to
Show Ss the cut up pictures and make known that each story talks about two of those pictures. Have students work together to match pictures into pairs and try to make up a story about an unusual journey involving two of the pictures Take w/c FB and find out which pictures they matched.
Tell Ss to listen and see if their ideas are correct Ss do activity Number 1 on their handout: Have them match pictures according to the listening Get them to check answers with partners and take w/c fb
Have students do exercise 2 on their handout : Have them match questions to journeys from the listening Ss discuss their ideas Ss listen again and check their answers with partners. Then take w/c feedback.
Have students read three modified versions of the listening ( exercise 3) They are going to be asked to find the mistakes They listen again and check their answers W/c feedback will be taken. Exercise 5 : Answer question in the form of a w/c discussion
Ask them to think about a personal journey, a book or a film involving a journey. Speaking Activity 1: Let them think of answers of their own Have them interview each other about their books/film/stories. General w/c feedback : Who had the most interesting one?
