Description

In this lesson, Ss will be introduced to grammar about the way to express future plans and arrangements. Firstly, they will talk about their personal plans for July and August while T monitoring their speech to check if they use the TL. Then Ss will either receive the clarification of TL or go on with practice. Ss will listen to a conversation to find out the TL. Then they will do some practice (grammar exercises) and wrap up with creating a story using the TL.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (7-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ss will receive a calendar for July and August. T will demonstrate what they should write in this: name / time / activity / alone or with somebody. Teacher's example: I am Kate, I am free next weekend and I am going to the beach with my friends. We are going by bus, the bus departs at 08.30 in the morning, that's why I am going to wake up early. Ss will have to ask around to find 2 people and write their plans, one person for July, one person for August. Ss will have 5-7 mins to complete the task. T will be monitoring to find out if Ss use the TL. IF STUDENTS USE TL: T will write down Ss examples on WB and ask CCQ to clarify. IF STUDENTS DON'T USE TL: T will use CCQ to clarify her examples. CCQ: am I talking about the Future? (yes) is this my personal plan? (yes) do I have an arrangement with other people? (yes) do I have any official timetable? (yes)

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • To provide Ss with an opportunity for listening to a conversation and completing a task

Ss will listen to a conversation ONCE. They will have to write down all the expressions about future plans. They can check their answers in pairs. Afterwards, Ss will receive the script with underlined phrases relating to TL. (listening 3.5)

Test #1 (4-6 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

Ss will receive a handout containing (ex.5-6a, p.85): - task 1 - match clarification with TL - task 2 - complete the questions. Answer key will be given overleaf + FORM of TL.

IF-activity Teach (3-4 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

use it only if Ss do many mistakes in the previous tasks. Use CCQ from Language Analysis.

Test #2 (2-3 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

Ss will do ex.6 (Workbook, p.50). Check WC.

Free practice (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ss will be speaking in pairs about the question given in the ex. (stage Test #1).

If-Time Freer practice (7-10 minutes) • To provide Ss with an opportunity for freer practice

Ss will receive 3 different handouts to create a story about a character's future plans. Then they will share their stories with their colleagues. Peer correction is included.
