- Pre-reading vocab: Tell Ss they are going to read a text about travelling, but first you’ll look at some vocabulary. - Elicit the vocabulary – remember, first establish meaning to elicit it, then drill some of the trickier items before writing them on the w/b: perform & performance, clown, journey, juggling, acrobatics audience, sponsored, cycle, frontier
- Pre-reading prediction: Show Ss the pictures of the man with a bicycle, the clown & the map, & ask them to look at them & the words you just taught. Get Ss to discuss with their partners what they think the reading is about - Ss discuss their ideas & try to predict the content of the reading - Get some general FB on their ideas, but don’t confirm or reject anything yet.
Tell Ss to read the text quickly & see if their ideas were right. Ss read – then get them to check in pairs - Take FB & at this point you can confirm answers - Put the number 36 on the w/b & ask Ss what it refers to in the text – get an answer
Give Ss ex 2 - & tell them to read the text again & find out what the numbers refer to - Ss check together - Ask Ss to look at ex 3 & work in pairs/small groups to find the words in the text that match the meaning in ex 3. - Take w/c FB & deal with any questions
Ask Ss what they thought of the man in the text. Then get the Ss to discuss in pairs the questions in ex 4 - Take some general w/c FB
