Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed listening practice using a text about Portobello Market in the context of Things (Shopping)

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of Bargaining, take, leave in the context of Shopping

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-2 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The Pictures will point out the main context-shopping; S's will have time to speak about the below mentioned Qs, in pairs; Do you like shopping? What do you like to buy?

Pre-Reading/Listening (5-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

The Pictures on page 66 of course book will be presented; Words for pre-teaching will be: Antiques, Junk, Second-hand, Pay the full price, Bargain, one of the students will read the questions in Part 1; Meanings of each question will be elicited separately; the questions will be discussed in pairs.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (9-11 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Students will listen to the listening passage for one time; they will answer part 2; the passage will be practiced after a pause after each part; The answers will be checked in Pairs; The following will be written on the board, A: The white rug B: The small silver candlesticks C: The red leather jacket The students will check their answers with the board

While-Reading/Listening #2 (9-11 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Student's will listen to details with pauses after each part, and they will answer part 3; They will check their answers in pairs; Answers will be on the board as following, rug=85 jacket=75

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

They will go back to the shopping pictures on Power Point Aid; they will answer the following questions individually, 1. Is there anything that you need to buy? 2. why do you need it? & where will you find it?

1st Test (2-3 minutes) • Vocabulary

Student's will be given the workbook ex; and they will be asked to fill in the blanks individually;

Teach (3-5 minutes) • Clarification in meaning

The students will have time to answer the questions individually; to check their answers they have to mingle and find the answers from their friends with the reasons

2nd Test (2-3 minutes) • Vocabulary

The students will Write the answers on page 66 of the main course book; they will have time to share their Ideas in their pairs; Answer Key will be given. A small clarification of the Pronunciation will happen. using the example sentence blow, (These Big ones) with stress on big.

Freer Productive skill (Speaking) (6-8 minutes) • Speaking for fluency using the new vocabulary.

Student's will do role play; one as the salesman the other as the customer; they will have time to practice speaking for fluency
