A Change of Plan (Future Tense)

Description

In the context of plans changing at the last minute between friends or family, Ss will practise using appropriate future tenses.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To review and practise the use of the future forms in teh context of changing plans

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practise in small groups (3) for speaking using the TL of future forms
  • To practise the proper prounciation of commonly elided word pairs

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher asks: 1. What are you going to do after class tonight? 2. What plans do you have for the weekend? 3. The room is too hot. What can you do? Ss should naturally use the future forms under review.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Ss will do the first activity that asks them to match form and meaning. They will then go on to the verb choice conversation activity. After peer check, Ss will listen to the recording to check answers.

Useful Language & Listening (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Ss will try to write the 6 sentences read out in order to focus on linked words in spoken language. Ss will peer check in pairs. FB on sentences and T will model and drill word pairs.

Productive Task(s) (10-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

In groups of 3, students will role-play a dialogue, allowing them to use the target language. They will follow a set procedure, using a flow chart. They will then repeat the activity using a different role and a different problem. T will monitor for error correction. FB can include solutions to the different problems indicated, using the TL

Extension Activity (5-10 minutes) • To continue practise of future forms

Ss can complete the workbook activity if time allows.
