Main Aims

To provide clarification of the past continuous with the past simple in the context of travelling by taxi. To practice past simple and past continuous tenses and to use them together in the series of events.
Subsidiary Aims

To provide pronunciations of positive, negative and interrogative forms of the past progressive. To provide fluency in the guided, freer practice part.
Procedure (31-40 minutes)
T writes sentences from the previous reading text on the board. Elicit the time, tenses, mark them on the board and what the students know about these two tenses. Talk in pairs, "Did the journey finish? Were they in the middle of their journey?"
T will write three sentences about past progressive and past simple. Time line will be drawn. CCQ will be set through these 3 sentences for clarifying meaning. T will give HO, WC will check and discuss the form through controlled gap-filling. Drilling the pronunciation of negative, positive and interrogative forms.
T will give three sets of picture for students to look and complete the controlled activity. Ss work in individually and check their answers within the group. WCF.
T will give five sets of pictures to the groups of students to make a plan about the rest of the story in a simple way. Ss will write simple story and describe it by using past progressive and past simple. Each group check the others stories at the end of the activity. Ss should tell their stories together.
The Ss will listen other's stories and they will discuss the differences.
