Description

In this lesson, students will focus on the lexis in the context of accidents and injuries.

Main Aims

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Get them watch a short video on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMITcQUe-9M Ask them if are they clumsy like Kramer? Elicit a few answers.

Pre-Listening (3-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Ask them what they see in the pictures. 'What happened?'.

While-Listening #1 (5-6 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Get them listen to the text and check their answers. Feedback.

While-Listening #2 (5-8 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Give the gap-fill handouts. Get them listen the text again and fill the gaps. Pair Check. Feedback.

Post-Listening-Speaking (6-8 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ask the Ss: -What other parts of the body do people break, cut or bang? break: arm, leg... cut: finger, hand, face... bang: fist, head... -What kind of things make people trip or slip over? trip: cable, stone, wire, chair, someone, rug... slip: ice, wet floor... Talk in pairs. Whole class feedback

Highlighting (5-10 minutes) • Get the students' attention to the structure of the sentences and enable them to use the phrases.

Give the handouts. Ask them to match to complete the conversations.Get them write it on their books. Feedback. Write the sentences on the board. Mark what comes after each phrases on the WB.

Controlled practice (10-12 minutes) • to provide students a less challenging opportunity to practice the target language.

Give the handouts. Ask them to choose the right endings and write it on their books. Pair check. Feedback.

Semi controlled practise • to provide students an opportunity to practice the target language.

Get them finish the sentences they made in 3b. Pair check Feedback.

Freer Practice (8-10 minutes) • to give the Ss an opportunity to use the target language.

Ask them: -When was the last time you broke something? -When was the last time you fell over? Elicit a few answers. Group work: Talk to your group: Who is the most accident-prone? Monitor. Feedback: Ask every group who is the most accident-prone in their group.
