Description

In this lesson, students practice their listening skills through a listening text about the meeting of a man and woman and the shocking things in their relationship. The lesson starts with a question about how well they know each other and how much they trust each other. Following these questions, students test their trust through a drama activity. This is followed by another drama activity in which the students mime a situation. After these activities, the students listen to the text and answer the questions. Finally, the students do role play with the help of their role cards and act it out.

Main Aims

To provide specific information and gist listening practice using a text about meeting in the train in the context of burglary

Subsidiary Aims

To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation

Procedure (21-27 minutes)

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher greets the students and asks them: How well do you know each other? How much do you trust each other? Following this, the teacher asks students get pair and blindfold one of them. The other students give them a direction to make them reach their seats.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

The teacher shows a bus picture and asks the students to think that they are on a long bus trip. They get bored and want to meet with their seatmate. The teacher asks how they would start the conversation with their seatmate and how they would respond as a seatmate.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

The teacher gives the role cards in which there are the names of the characters and the situation. According to the situation, they are at the party. While everybody is having fun, one of the guests steals a golden vase and the host notices this situation.
