Description

In this lesson the Ss will improve their listening in the topic of "My home town". The lesson starts off with a listening matching activity about Steve who lives in Vancouver. This is followed up by another listening activity to answer the questions. There will be another listening activity where they will listen to 4 conversations with Steve and complete a chart. The next activity will be Ss practicing the conversations with a partner. The next activity will be a speaking activity where Ss will ask and answer questions about their home town.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher will greet the Ss, after that the teacher write on the W/B "My home town". Then the teacher will say "I am from Australia, my home town is Sydney". "I like playing football" "my favorite food is pizza" "Sydney is very hot" "I like swimming"

Pre-Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Teacher writes the following sentences on the board "what is the speakers name?" does he like snowboarding? "Yes/No" now explains to Ss to listen to the audio Before teacher presses play he/she asks ICQ " what will you be writing?" Once the Ss have listened to the audio, the teacher asks one of the students for the answer for questions 1 and ask a different students for number 2. Teacher will chest the H/O and instruct the Ss to "listen" and tick the things Steve talks about. Teacher instructs Ss to listen again and check answers.

Listening #2 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information listening tasks

Teacher will then instruct/choose 8 Ss one by one to read the questions out loud to the class. teacher instructs students to listen and answer the questions. Check answers by choosing Ss randomly for their answers.

Listening #3 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference listening tasks

Teacher now instructs Ss to listen to 4 conversations and complete the chart. Look at the chart you have to write what each conversation is about on the left. On the right you have to write who is Steve talking to? after listening once the teacher will instruct the Ss to listen again to complete or check their answers. Possinly need to play listening a thirds time.

speaking (8-10 minutes) • To provide the Ss with an opportunity to practice speaking using TL

The teacher will instruct the Ss to work in pairs and talk about their home towns using the question in the activity. Teacher monitors and gives support when needed. If time remaining set up role play with partners in order to give more practice in the TL.
