Procedure (33-43 minutes)
The teacher greets the students and introduces herself. She lets ss ask her questions in order to get to know her.
T tells a story about her trip to her village and wants ss to guess which animals she saw in the village. She shows the pictures of the animals and elicits the animal names. She models the words and does drilling exercises. She shows the words on the ppt. She repeats the process for each word. Then she elicits the types of animals (mammals, birds, insects and reptiles). She elicits the characteristics of each group and checks understanding through concept checking questions.
T elicits from the students the names of the animals and what type they are.
T gives handouts and tells ss to do the puzzle individually. After they finish it, they compare their worksheets. T monitors and helps them if necessary.
T divide ss into groups and gives the handouts. T tells ss that they have 5 minutes to write as many animals as they can under the categories. Ss work together to write animal names. T does a whole class feedback.
T explains that they will play a guessing game. She demonstrates an example on the ppt and wants ss to guess the animal. T divides ss into groups. Using the prompts, ss writes sentences and tell the sentences in their groups. Their friends try to guess the animal. T monitors and gives a whole class feedback.
