Favourites, verb expressions for regular activities
Beginners level

Description

In this lesson, Ss will recall the things they like and develop listening skills through gist listening to a boy speaking about his regular activities. They will work in pairs, to compare the information, and individually, to match words and pictures. They will speak about what they like and don't like in pairs and then tell WC about their partner.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide gist listening practice using a text about favourites in the context of regular activities

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide review of and assess the students' resource basic verbs in the context of regular activities

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

'What is your favourite jam? What is favourite sport?' activity. I start and students continue together.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

While-Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

To check if matching was done correctly. To make Ss say the sentences out. Drill problems with their pronunciation WC.

WhileListening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Listen and stop activity. Individually and then check in pairs. Make Ss read it out and ask them for corrections.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Exercise 1.61 to match pictures with activities. If time allows, to re-arrange Ss for PW and ask them to write down what their partners like or don't like in a third person form. Then, put the note into a box and make Ss draw it to read out and guess whose it was.
