To provide practice using 'like' in a freer conversation.
Procedure (34-45 minutes)
On W/B write GUESS WHO? Game of Guess Who? and followed by examples of questions ss may use. Teacher thinks of a collegue who has been teaching the same class through out the course. Ss play GUESS WHO? Questions for ss to use. 'what's she/he like'? 'what does he/she look like? what does he/she like doing? Sts discuss in pairs and decide who it is. 5 teachers names are written on W/B and the ss come up to tick next to the names. Get feedback from the ss and give the answer.(if not found)
On w/b have a picture of 2 people talking, Tina and Leo. Ask ss what are they talking about? Tell ss that Tina is asking Leo about his new girlfriend. On HO1 Exercise 1- Read questions1-3 and the answers a)-c) before listening. ICQ-Are we writing?no, Are we reading?yes Play CD R10.5 listen and match the questions to the answers. Check with partner. Give answers on WB. Check with class, who is Leo's new girlfriend? Zoe
Exercise 2 On their own, Complete the rules with questions 1-3 in the first exercise. Check with your partner. On WB ask sts to read Q1 and have them write the correct number in the blank space. Complete the rest of the rules. finger highlight: What's in the question is a contraction of What is.
HO1- Ask sts to look at exercise 3 and say the adjectives in the sentences. T writes the adj on the w/b. T describes (mimes) the adj so the sts are clear about the meaning and pronunciations. Sts on their own, write the questions for the answers.e.g She's tall, attractive and very friendly. What's she like? Check answers in pairs. Listen to R10.6 and check for stress and weak forms. Find the answers in front of the tables.
Sts write a name of a friend or someone close like a partner on a piece of paper. Get the sts into a group of 4/5.Sts take turns to ask and answer the questions in exercise 1 about the people on their paper. Monitor and help with problems. Get 1 sts from each group to share what they have learnt about the names on paper with the whole class.
