To provide gist, detailed and inference reading practice using a text about emotions.
Procedure (52-62 minutes)
Check homework - Pg. 43 (they were told this was the most important) Do not have the students read aloud. Simply scan their story looking for key emotion words. Pg. 44-45 - not as important if not done. Ask questions: When your friend comes too late to an appointment, you feel _________. When you have a journey tomorrow, you feel very (or 'so') ___________. When you get a full mark on a quiz, you feel _________. When do you feel happy? When do you feel nervous?
Handout #1 - Match the adjectives with the correct expression. Have students check their answers in pairs check answers with the whole class. Ask the students when they feel some of these emotions listed.
Handout #2 - Give the students the handout and explain that they will do this exercise alone. They will read the sentences and fill in the gaps. Once finished, have them read the sentences to each other to check. Let them correct each other's mistakes. Follow this with wc feedback. ANSWER KEY: 1. tired 2. annoyed 3. happy 4. worried 5. bored 6. nervous
Handout #3Students will listen to four pieces of different songs, then talk together about how they felt about the song and the video. Have them discuss this together and then wc feedback from them about their emotions and feelings regarding the videos and the music. Have the students bring some youtube videos of music that makes them feel: Happy Sad Angry These need to be songs in English. Let them know that if they don't know any English or American artists then they can listen on youtube and bring the name of the artist and the song and we will look it up and listen to it in class.
