Description

In this lesson I will focus on getting to know students and for students to get to know me. Its mainly to build rapport and get to know students needs and motivations that way I know what teaching techniques I should use in future lessons.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of contracted forms of am/are/is, my/your. To get to know Ss and build rapport

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide speaking practice for students to be able to introduce themselves and another person

Procedure

Introduction/Warmer (10-10 minutes) • To build rapport with students and introduce myself and get to know students

1. Star Facts activity - Naz, Sydney, 26, Teacher, 1990 (Place, Date, Number, Name, Something) 2. Students to ask Yes/No Questions to find out what these things mean to T. 3. Once Ss have asked the right questions, T to talk a little about each thing and tell them about themselves 4. T. to give clear instructions and asks students to do the same activity about themselves 5. Monitor to see what Ss are writing and to see if they have finished 6. T. then asks Ss to get up and find someone else and have them do the same and guess about each others star facts. 7. WCFB : T. to get a few Ss to talk about their partner's facts using (He/She etc.)

Building context - Questions (10-12 minutes) • To narrow the context to a more specific area and continue to generate interest and to have students introduced to contracted forms

1. T. to use star facts to elicit Questions to the answers on the WB 2. T. to show contracted form -What's your name? -How old are you? -When were you born? -Where are you from? -What's your job? 3. Highlight stress and connected speech on the WB and drill pronunciation 4. Elicit from Ss when do we use these questions? (When you first meet someone) 5. T. to tell Ss how you would introduce a friend (This is....) 6. Nice to meet you...

Building Context - Introductions - Nice to meet you (15-15 minutes) • To provide students with ability to introudce people to others and to use nice to meet you

1. T to put up visuals of three people and write names Pablo, Mika, Ben 2. T. to elicit what they would say to introduce the people to each other (this is...) 3. T to demonstrate using visuals: and write dialogue on WB * Pablo: Ben, this is Mika. Mika, this is Ben. / Mika: Hello, Ben. Ben: Hello, Mika. 4. T. to elicit what they would say next. "Nice to meet you" - CCQs when do you say this? (when you first meet someone) 5. T make groups of three and have Ss practice introductions and nice to meet you T. to monitor and have short WC-FB

Building Context - How are you? (15-15 minutes) • To provide Ss with when to say how are you and what they could answer

1. T cut ups of Dialogue between Pablo & Ben and Mika 2. T. to play audio and have Ss to put the dialogue on order of what they hear - (repeat audio if necessary) - WCFB for answers 3. T. to then ask Ss and Ss answer back with answers - CCQs 4. Ss to practice in groups of three 5. HO for Ss to complete the convos alone then compare in pairs 6. Ss to practice convos in groups 7. T to monitor and hot error correction where necessary

Freer Practice (5-5 minutes) • To provide Ss with fluency and accuracy with TL

1. T to have students be someone else for the day (maybe a celebrity) and introduce each other at a cocktail party 2. T to demo first and join in
