To provide detailed and inference reading practice using a poem called Dream within a Dream in the context of Edgar A. Poe's poetry
Subsidiary Aims

To provide writing practice in the context of imagination vocabulary
Procedure (42-54 minutes)
- Teacher displays the final line of E.Poe's poem on WB "Is all that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream?" and ask students what they make of it. - Students discuss it in 2 minutes in pairs. -Teacher shows the picture of E.Poe on the board.
-Teacher elicits some key words like brow, amid, pitiless, weep.
-Students gist read (1 minute) the text about Edgar Allan Poe and then answer some T/F questions.(this gives students an indication about the possible nature of the poem.) -Check the answers in Pairs -WCFB
-Play the recording 2.33 (poem). -Students read the poem to select the best summary in PAIRS. - WCFB
-First, Students INDIVIDUALLY do a words matching activity (enables them to answer the following comprehension questions more confidently.) -Students check in PAIRS -show AK on WB -IN GROUPS of 3: -Students answer 5 comprehension questions. -They check the other groups' answers -WCFB (refer to the text if necessary) -If time allows, ask students if they like the poem. Why or why not? -They discuss in GROUPS. -Elicit some answers.
IN PAIRS -Students do a matching activity with cut-up collocations (the poem can be used for help) -Give students AK. INDIVIDUALLY -Using the underlined phrases from the previous task, students write at least 3 TRUE sentences about themselves. -Students check in PAIRS. -Share some examples (ask partners)
