To provide fluency speaking practice in a discussion with quotations in the context of Steve Jobs
Procedure (40-47 minutes)
T starts with a question about 'icon' to elicit the meaning of the word. Asks an example from the Ss about who/what they might be. Then T shows Steve Jobs' photo and asks what they know about him. T gives some time to discuss the question in groups.
T shows some pictures taken from the text (in the book) and asks if they know what/who they are and if they can guess the relation between Steve Jobs and these pictures. They discuss the pictures few minutes in groups.
T gives the HO for gist. 'Match the headlines with the paragraphs'. T gives the HO for gist. They read it and fold the paper. Ss will be given 2 minutes to read the text. They will read it individually. Then they will answer the question. Peer check. WC check.
T gives the HO about vocabulary. 'match the paragraphs with the headlines'. Ss will read the definitions first and they will try to find the correct word for each definition written on the HO. Ss will check the answers from the Answer Key. WC check to make it clearer.
Read the text for details. They will have 4-5 mins to read the text again. Then they will decide if the sentences are true or false. Check in the groups. WC check.
Before you start change the groups with colourful cards. Give a sentence quoted from Steve Jobs for each group. They will think about the sentence and then discuss the meaning in the group. Then Ss will tell what they think about the quotation and the rest of the class will tell if they agree or disagree with those ideas.
