Procedure (34-45 minutes)
(BEFORE THE LESSON STARTS: Distribute a HO with images of different people (jobs). Write the letters of the alphabet on the WBs (both). Make sure the desks are moved away from the side board or have the Ss do it. Divide the class in half.) (Gesturing) Team A. Team B. Team A over here. Team B over here. Write jobs starting with each letter. One letter. One Job. You have 4 minutes" FB: "Team __ wins! Team __ has the most!"
(Project the HO on the board.) In groups of 3, match the jobs with the images. (Have Ss place the labels on the WB.) WC FB: Are these correct?
(Distribute the HO. Chest the HO) Match the sentences with the missing words. Groups of 3. WC FB: (Ss write the answers on the board.) CCQ's pension - "Is Gonca working now? [No] "Does she get money from her company? [Yes] free meals - Does she eat lunch at work? [Yes] Does Sara pay for food at work? [No] health insurance - Does Emir’s health insurance pay for doctor’s appointments? [Yes] What is a Turkish health insurance company? [AkSigorta, Allianz, holidays - Is Tony at school on New Year's Day? [No] What are Christmas and New Year's Day. [holidays] company car - Does Tufan have a car? [Yes] Did he pay for it? [No] training - Is Levent learning at work? [Yes] What is he learning? [sales] Form: Are they verbs or nouns? Pronunciation: (Drill + backchaining individually and chorally. Note stress and troublesome phonemes.)
(Pass out HO with exercises for listening.) Exercise 1. Listen to 4 people. Answer the question. 4 people. 4 answers. (Play the recordings) Check your answers in pairs (Hand out the AK) Check your answers.
Exercise 2. Read the questions. (Prepare the audio) Listen again and write the missing word. (Play the audio tracks) Check your answers.
Exercise 3. (Draw the chart on the board.) Listen 1 more time. Complete the chart with the best things things and worst things for each job. PWFB: Check in pairs. WCFB: (Have Ss write answers on the board.)
Get into groups of 3*. (*depending on the number of SS - min. 3/max 5) Together decide what is the best job and why. What are the are the best things about the job? What are the worst things? IF THERE IS TIME: (Have the 1 S from each group sit in another group/1 S from each group present the job to the class & 1 write the best/worst on the WB.) 1 person write the best things. 1 person write the worst things. What job did you choose? Why? (What are the best things/the worst things) Vote: Who thinks 1 is the best job? (Raising hand) 2? 3? ... Error Correction: 3 to 4 things
