Prevocab: Do a vocab of words in the exercises and listening tasks that are essential to understand. Handout a sheet with pictures of some of the words and ellicit and drill some of the words. Bring all the products (realia) from exercise 1 to the class and put on table. Tell the students to look at the things for 3 minutes in the room and write down what they think they are called. Ask the students some of the things they remembered. Handout sheet 1 and tell them to individually fill the gaps in the exercise. When they are done with the exercises compare in groups. Do a whole class FB wherein you tell them to read phrases. Hand out the answer keys (HO 2) and let them finish the exercises. (controlled practice) Tell them to unfold their sheet now (HO 1) and answer the question there. =Think of other items that can go in the containers. Give an example: A bottle of juice, a box of chockolates. Tell them to work in groups. Do WC FB (semi-controlled practice) Give students HO 3 and ask them what you can tell about the family from the things in their shopping basket? Do monitoring during this exercise and assist with products. (semi controlled) Tell students to work in pairs and answer the following question: Which 4 products do you buy a lot? (freer practice)
Handout the class HO4 and tell them they will listen to a phone conversation and fill the gaps in the exercise. In the conversation one person is in the supermarket and is phoning home because he forgot his shopping list. Tell the class they will work in in GW to check their answers for about 3 minutes. Do WC FB and let the students read the answers out loud.
Handout the record of listening and tell them to compare their answers with the transcript. Tell the class they will listen to the conversation again. Ask them "What do you notice about the pronunciation of 'of'?". How does 'of' sound in the conversation? Play the record again and tell them to read while they listen. Ask the students what the first phrase is. Write on WB 'some bottles of beer' ask students to read it. Then read it yourself and make them repeat after you. Ask second phrase 'a carton of cranberry juice' and make them repeat after you. Tell students they will listen to the complete shopping list.Tell them to write down what they hear. Play the record. After that, tell them to work in pairs to compare their answers.
Freer practice: Tell students to look at picture in HO 5 and look at the products there. Tell them to write down what they think the products are individually. After having written some of them down, tell them to compare their answers in GW. Do a WC FB and end the lesson.
